The Detachment from Reality
Due to the dizzying speed at which things spin
All these schedules, commitments, and appointments
Made me forget
Why I came here
The animals roam at night
The wind makes its little whirlwinds
Invisible all around
It moves things with gusts
Clicks, rustles
And the swelling of tarps
The crickets’ chirp-chirp
Summer at its peak
Overwhelms us with heat
Humans cook like steaks in the sun
This magical world of the night
I’m always alone
Well, without human friends
But with all these animals around
You don’t feel all that lonely
The ducks
That tonight I’ve named
Papa and Rino
Rino and Papa
They wander around
Make a little quack
It’s not annoying, actually it’s relaxing, and who knows what they’re saying
Finding comfortable positions with this pain has become a merry-go-round
Sometimes I still take pills
Like tonight
When it’s too much
It’s too much
